Why Community Play?
Is your club reaping the rewards of being involved in the biggest tennis programme in the country?
Tennis Hot Shots is THE name for kids’ tennis in New Zealand. Community Play is a great way for kids to get into Hot Shots, to see what tennis is all about and to have fun whilst exploring and playing in a safe and structured environment.
What does Community Play provide?
Community Play is all about enjoying tennis with friends and being a good sport. Parents (or guardians) are empowered to assist on court with scoring and reinforcing the “be a good sport” messages.
Community Play provides:
an opportunity for players at clubs who do not have a coach to participate in Tennis Hot Shots.
players who are currently in a Tennis Hot Shots Coaching programme with an additional opportunity to play.
a link for children from the local schools to try tennis in the club environment.
a chance for players wishing to improve their skills to explore Tennis Hot Shots Coaching options.
a stepping stone for players between Tennis Hot Shots Coaching and local tournaments and competitions.
a chance for families to be at the tennis club together.
a low cost option (no more than $5 per session) for players and parents wanting to 'try before they buy'.
How does it work?
Community Play is designed as a volunteer-led, low cost, play-based programme for kids age 3-12. It provides an introduction to tennis for children from local schools. It acts as a great option for current junior members and coaching participants to compete and play; putting what they’ve learnt into action. Community Play is also the perfect stepping stone from ‘non-participant’ to coaching participant and club member.
What will you get?
Becoming a Community Play club gives you the tools, resources, promotion and support you need to reach kids in your community and get them through the gates and onto the court for a non-threatening low cost tennis experience. Upon sign up, your club will receive a benefits package valued over $400 including balls and a net to get you started, gifts for all your participants, a volunteer training workshop held locally, and substantial marketing and promotional resources that you can personalise to your club. There are benefits worth approximately $1000 available to your club and your players!
For a one-off payment of $150, your club becomes a Community Play venue for life. After your first year of involvement, programme registration is fully funded by Tennis New Zealand, and you'll continue to have access to all the great benefits including annual equipment top ups.
